  • BMW Lac Rose concept

BMW Lac Rose concept – A sign of things to come? Keep your adventure bike running in the toughest conditions with Motul engine oil. AVAILABLE AT Randburg Midas A very strong rumor suggests BMW intends to introduce at least three new models as part of the R nineT family. BMW introduced the Scrambler member of this family at the Wheels & Waves Festival, and this year the Lac Rose concept made its debut at the same event. Lac Rose is the French name of the rose-colored Retba Salt Lake where the original route of the Paris-Dakar Rally ended. In the mid 80s, BMW factory bikes won the race 3 years in a row, with the great Gaston Rahier taking the third win in 1985. The Lac Rose concept just might be similar to a future BMW R nineT-based production bike, along with a stripped down version of the BMW R nineT and a sport bike version, according to rumor. Apparently, sales of the R nineT have been good enough for BMW to consider the expansion of production models. Shared parts could make development of each model relatively inexpensive. What are your thoughts, do you like it? • In memory of Luis Salom R.I.P

This is a short tribute video in memory of Luis Salom R.I.P Sad news comes from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as the announcement was made that Luis Salom passed, succumbing to injuries from a crash during today’s Moto2 Free Practice 2. He was 24 years old. The session was red flagged, and ultimately stopped, with just under 25 minutes remaining after the Spanish rider fell at turn 12. The official statement said that two medical cars and then two ambulances were immediately on scene to treat the Salom and the medical helicopter was also deployed to assist in his treatment. Due the severity of his condition, the decision was taken to transfer Salom by road to the nearby Hospital General de Catalunya. On arrival, he underwent surgery, but despite the best efforts of the trauma team, he passed away. Salom made his World Championship debut at Jerez in 2009 in the 125cc category. He finished on the podium in 25 races, including nine victories in the Moto3 World Championship. He finished the 2012 Moto3 World Championship in second position in the standings and a year later was third overall after battling with Maverick Vinales and Alex Rins down to the final round in Valencia. The Spaniard also finished on the podium three times in 41 appearances in the Moto2 World Championship, including more recently, a second place pace in the opening round of 2016 at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar. Randburg Midas sends thoughts, prayers and condolences to his family For more information on our impressive range of car care products and more, please contact us www.midasrandburg.co.za | (011) 789-4411 | marco@midasrandburg.co.za | 191 Bram Fischer Drive, Randburg. • The new Honda Africa Twin CRF 1000 L

The new Honda Africa Twin CRF 1000 L is the most anticipated and discussed bike of 2016. Carl Kritzinger attended the international launch in the Western Cape and filed this report… Don’t forget to keep your adventure bike running in the hardest of condition, use Motul engine oil available from Randburg Midas (011) 789-4411 | marco@midasrandburg.co.za | 191 Bram Fischer Drive, Randburg. In 1986, the year of its birth, the Honda NXR750 “Africa Twin” won the Paris-Dakar rally raid. It was conceived with the sole purpose of winning this and other extreme overland races that were growing in popularity in the 80s. Almost overnight it became the benchmark for reliability and performance and dominated the series for the following four years. Using the knowledge gained in developing and racing the NXR750, Honda designed a production motorcycle capable of long-distance touring over varying and often unforgiving terrain. Thus, in 1988, the Africa Twin XRV650 RD03 was launched. This “consumer” Africa Twin was popular, but it did not receive all the praise it deserved. That’s because the late 80s and 90s was the era of the superbike. So, Honda ended production of its last Africa Twin, the XRV750 RD07A, in 2003. Little did they know that it would take the Twin just a few years to become a collector’s item, as the adventure scene exploded. If adventure bikes have become unaffordable, bloated and – dare we say it – soft, the new Honda seems to choose a different path. It appears lean and aggressive, but not intimidating. A dry mass of 208kg (dry, for the entry-level version) might sound heavy, but as soon as you get going, it feels as light as a 600cc. This is the result of the Twin’s near perfect weigh distribution and balance. Press the starter and the parallel twin, and not a V-twin as before, gives an impressive bark. Because of its 270-degree crankshaft the engine sounds and feels like a single-cylinder unit. This makes it the ideal power source for off-road riding as it provides good traction and enough torque at low revs. This all-new, compact 1000cc engine puts 70kW and 98Nm at your disposal, with a power curve that doesn’t intimidate. But there’s more than enough grunt to allow the Twin to fulfill its (dual) purpose. With a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel (with spokes and inner tubes) Honda’s intention is clear: the Africa…
