  • Car safety features to look out for

With new innovation in the automotive industry, there has been great headway made in the overall safety of vehicles. So let’s see what the key safety features to look out for when buying a new car are. Whether you’re shopping for a used or new car, it’s important to spend time making sure it’s safe. First off, you should take a test drive and try on the seat belt to make sure it fits well and is comfortable. Check that head restraint, roof structures, and windshield designs don’t interfere with your ability to see clearly. And try to conduct your test drive in the evening so you can check the visibility provided by the headlights. To help you better understand what to look for we have put together this list. Seat Belts In the event of a crash, seat belts are designed to keep you inside the vehicle. They also reduce the risk that you will collide with the steering wheel, dashboard, or windshield. New seat belt designs have the following additional features that improve seat belt performance: Adjustable upper belts. An adjustable upper belt lets you change the position of the shoulder strap to accommodate a person’s size. This feature may encourage passengers to wear their belts since it increases shoulder belt comfort. Seat belt pre-tensioner. Pre-tensioners retract the seat belt to remove excess slack, almost instantly, in a crash. However, you still need to adjust your seat belt so that it fits as snugly as possible since pre-tensioners are not powerful enough to pull you back into your seat in the event of an impact. Energy management features. Energy management features allow seat belts to “give” or yield during a severe crash to prevent forces on the shoulder belt from concentrating too much energy on your chest. These features include “load limiters” built into the shoulder belt retractor and/or “tear stitching” in the webbing that causes the seat belt to extend gradually. Rear centre seat lap/shoulder belts. Some manufacturers provide a rear centre lap/shoulder belt. This added feature is especially beneficial to older children and children in booster seats who are often seated in the rear centre position. Air Bags Depending on the speed at impact and the stiffness of the object struck, front airbags inflate to prevent occupants from hitting the dashboard, steering wheel, and windshield. Side airbags reduce the risk that occupants will hit the door or objects that crash…

  • How to use a Jigsaw

Buy your Jigsaw from us at Randburg Midas then learn how to use it like a pro! We have the perfect power tools to help you tackle and master any DIY project! In our opinion, the jigsaw ranks a close second to the cordless drill as must-have do-it-yourself power tools. They are very versatile and work perfectly for around the house fixes and small woodworking projects. Even if you’ve never used a saw before the jigsaw is extremely intuitive and also safer to operate than most power saws. Children can also be taught how to use a jigsaw and can be one of the first power tools they learn to use. But as with any power tool, they should be respected and handled with care as well and proper safety equipment should be used when operating them. Jigsaws are perfect for cutting pine boards and plywood both of which will be used extensively in many of the DIY projects we are going to post. You can also buy saw blades that will cut laminate, tile and metal. Before using your jigsaw make sure you have the correct blade and your workspace is clear of any obstructions. You’ll also want to consider using gloves and we highly recommend wearing safety goggles to protect your eyes from sawdust. When you start your cut make sure the shoe of the saw which is the flat guide is firmly placed on the cutting material and start the blade before moving it into the wood. Mark out your cuts beforehand and keep your fingers far away from the blade. Also be aware of what is below your cutting material so it doesn’t get snagged by the blade such as a cord, table or pant leg. With more experience, you’ll get the hang of using your jigsaw and learn how to cut corners (literally) and make smooth cuts around edges For more information: Call or WhatsApp between 8am – 5pm weekdays only (082) 569-1394 | (011) 789-4411 / 011 036-0200 | marco@midasrandburg.co.za | 191 Bram Fischer Drive, Randburg. invite you to leave us a FACEBOOK RECOMMENDATION or GOOGLE REVIEW.
